RB handcuff, for those who are unaware, is when you take your starting RBs backup player. This is a strategy used to "handcuff" or lock the teams backfield.
How important is it to "cuff" your RB? Its important to a certain degree. The most important RBs to cuff are the top tier guys. The best example of this would be if you had E.Elliot you would want to have T.Pollard to cuff with. He is on a good team that doesn't have anyone to compete with Pollard as a backup. Not to mention one of the best offensive lines. Volume/usage/opportunity are key factors for RBs.
Here are my top RB cuffs:
Kareem Hunt (Cleveland Browns)
Tony Pollard (Dallas Cowboys)
Latavius Murray (New Orleans Saints)
Alexander Mattison (Minnesota Vikings)
J.K. Dobbins (Baltimore Ravens)
Kareem Hunt is a great player and if Nick Chubb were to go down Hunt would take on a workhorse roll. Plus he can be played even if Chubb is on the field.
Tony Pollard would have an awesome opportunity if Zeke were to miss time. He knows the system and has the skill and offensive line to score fantasy points!
Latavius Murray can be a league winner if Kamara gets hurt again. For many players last year Murray was an absolute stud! Not to mention he plays with Drew Brees.
Alexander Mattison will be on the field cause lets face it Dalvin Cook has yet to play a full year. Come playoff time you will need Mattison and you know the Vikings are going to be running the rock.
J.K. Dobbins the rookie RB on the best rushing offense? If Ingram misses any time I expect Dobbins to take over. The Ravens said he was too good to pass up on in the draft.
There are obviously more RB cuffs out there. Chose wisely, this is not a strategy for everyone.
